Latvija un NATO

International Herald Tribune                                                                 Nov 17, 2010
LATVIA and NATOIn the Russian-Georgian war a third force appeared, the South Ossetian militia. In South Ossetia live about 70,000 people. From these the Russians formed and armed about 2,000 man strong militia, originally to harass Georgia. In the recent war, however, it was the militia which killed more Georgian civilians and looted and burned more house than the Russian army.
In Latvia, a member of NATO, today there are about 900,000 Russians. When Latvia regained its independence in 1991, the Russian army and all other military personnel and their families and all Russians who entered Latvia during the occupation were supposed to leave. However, Russia wanted them to remain in Latvia and to make a fifth column out of them in order to destabilize Latvia and eventually try to again incorporate it back into Russia. Therefore, tens of thousands of the Russians just took off their uniforms and stayed in Latvia.
Putin’s government controls all media in Russia and in the same way uses its agents, and Russian businessmen and bankers in Latvia to gain control of all Russian language newspapers in Latvia. In Latvia the TV comes from Moscow already. Through this control of all Russian language information, the Russian government has brainwashed and influenced the Russians in Latvia to where they are disloyal to Latvian government and think totally differently than do the Latvians. More than 95% of the Russians were against Latvia joining NATO, the Latvians were for it. More than 95% of the Russians want Russian to be the second official language of Latvia, the Latvians don’t. More than 95% of the Russians took the Russian side in the Russian-Georgian war, the Latvians sided with Georgia. This irrespective of whether the Russians had Latvian citizenship, Russian citizenship or no citizenship. For them it’s enough to be Russian.
In case of Russian attack on Latvia, Russia, just as in South Ossetia, can form and over 50,000 man militia inside Latvia making it very difficult for NATO to defend Latvia which NATO is required to do.
NATO is a military organization formed to protect Europe from Russian attack. Now NATO has to plan how to defend Latvia from possible Russian attack. In this, NATO has four options:
1) Forms and support a 100,000 man Latvian National Guard. Then while NATO and Latvian army fight against the Russian army, the Latvian National Guard will neutralize the Russian militia inside Latvia
2) Repatriate back to Russia all Russians younger than 50 years unless they can prove beyond any doubt their loyalty to a Latvian Latvia.
3) Spread the 1.5 million Russians now in Latvia and Estonia throughout the other NATO countries. There they would be no danger to anyone, and Latvia and Estonia would finally become normal civilized Northern European countries. This to be done by financial means, The Russians have a saying: “Home is where it is warm”, that is comfortable.
4) Expel Latvia from NATO so that NATO does not have to protect Latvia, i.e. new Molotov-Ribentrop (Putin-Merkel) pact, or new Yalta.
